Capitol Suicide Bombing Attempt Halted: FBI Arrests Moroccan Man After Investigation
The man, in his 30s and of Moroccan descent, was nabbed following a lengthy investigation by the FBI, initiated after he expressed interest in conducting an attack.
It's unclear how the FBI learned of his aspirations.
The man thought undercover FBI agents assisting him in his plot were associates of Al Qaeda.
When he was arrested Friday in Washington, he was carrying with him a vest supposedly packed with explosives, but the material inside was not actually dangerous, Fox News was told.

Private Prisons Spend Millions On Lobbying To Put More People In Jail
The Justice Policy Institute (JPI) released a report chronicling the political strategies of private prison companies “working to make money through harsh policies and longer sentences.” The report’s authors note that while the total number of people in prison increased less than 16 percent, the number of people held in private federal and state facilities increased by 120 and 33 percent, correspondingly. Government spending on corrections has soared since 1997 by 72 percent, up to $74 billion in 2007. And the private prison industry has raked in tremendous profits. Last year the two largest private prison companies — Corrections Corporation of America (CCA) and GEO Group — made over $2.9 billion in revenue.

Kamara said he's keeping all 105 of them in one shoebox.

Judge’s fury at guidelines ‘that stop him jailing cannabis farmer’ despite local epidemic
A judge has criticised new sentencing guidelines which he said left him with no choice but to free a man who had grown thousands of pounds worth of cannabis.
Judge Michael Murphy told 33-year-old Craig Cupit that if he had appeared before him a few months ago he would have been jailed.
Instead, despite the discovery of eight cannabis plants capable of producing £8,960 worth of the drug in the tattooed bodybuilder’s cellar, he said he had no choice but to give him a community penalty.

Atheists bill big names for 'coming out' party in Capitol
By Kari Huus, msnbc.com
The National Mall in Washington has hosted its share of rallies — some massive and iconic, like the famed civil rights march of 1963, which featured Martin Luther King’s "I Have a Dream" speech. Nonetheless, a scrappy coalition of atheists say they will make history on the Mall next month by pulling together what they say is the first nationwide celebration of secular values — what one of the organizers called a "Woodstock for non-belief."

Marijuana Smokers Breathe Easy Says The University of Alabama
As of January 10, 2012, a new study has been published in the Journal of the American Medical Association exonerating marijuana from the bad reputation of being as harmful to your lungs when smoked as tobacco cigarettes. Researchers at the University of California San Francisco and the University of Alabama at Birmingham completed a twenty-year study between 1986 and 2006 on over 5,000 adults over the age of 21 in four American cities.
Study co-author Dr. Stefan Kertesz is a professor of preventive medicine at the University of Alabama at Birmingham. He explained that the studies measured the pulmonary obstruction in individuals with up to seven joint-years of lifetime exposure (one joint per day for seven years or one joint per week for 49 years). "What this study clarifies," Kertesz explains in a released video, "is that the relationship to marijuana and lung function changes depending on how much a person has taken in over the course of a lifetime."

DC man’s ‘NO TAGS’ vanity plate earns him $20,000 in tickets
Washington, D.C. driver Danny White thought he had a really good idea for a joke. But the joke's on him--to the tune of $20,000, reports local affiliate NBC4.
The issue? Each time a car without proper identification is cited for a violation, a DMV employee enters "NO TAGS" into their paperwork. Because White's vanity plate is registered with the District of Columbia's DMV, his name and vehicle appear in the computer's system whenever a "NO TAGS" violation is entered. Notices for the fines are then mailed to White's residence.
